The BASIX harness (as well as the Basix cradle) is perfect for youngsters, novice anglers, those on a budget, occasional anglers and anyone who simply doesn't want to spend a lot of money, to ensure that fish safety is a priority, but not a compromise.
NOTE: The BASIX weighing strap MUST NOT be used as a restraining device.
It is a traditional weighing sling, but with some additional features, designed to enable you to safely transfer fish from the water to your unhooking mat, and vice versa, and weigh them - it is not a restraint device and cannot be safely used for this purpose.
This weighing strap is made from durable nylon and is long and deep enough to weigh all the carp you are likely to catch in the UK, and is also suitable for use abroad at many sites. It features strong, lightweight, powder-coated two-piece metal bars to ensure rigidity and make the weighing process safer for the fish. When not in use, these bars can be easily separated in the middle - they are elastic - and the sling can be folded into the compact bag supplied (the folded length allows it to be stored in the Basix Cradle unhooking mat or in an external pocket of a Compac Rod Holdall).
A sturdy strap is attached to the rods on each side and ensures good balance once they are attached to the hook of your scale, allowing you to weigh fish safely. It has plenty of drainage holes on the bottom, so that once the fish has been transferred to the margins, in your rolled-up landing net, the water will drain quickly as you lift and carry it to your unhooking mat.
A good-quality zipper fastener at each end of the sling ensures that the fish can't slip out during transport or weighing, and that it's easy to reassemble or undo. The sling has been designed to float, allowing easy transfer of fish and coiled net into the water - so there's no need to lift the net, reducing the risk of splitting or damaging fins and tails.
