Place the compass flat on a map at the starting point and point the aiming arrow (the red arrow in front of the dial) in the direction of the destination point, your azimuth. Then turn the dial so that the north point (N value) is parallel to the north of the map (i.e. the upper part of the map). This way, your compass is configured according to the map. From this point on, you take the compass in your hand and turn on yourself until the magnetic needle meets the north on the dial: you then only have to follow the right direction given by the aiming arrow. As you walk, make sure the magnetic needle remains aligned with north on the dial. If there is a deviation, you have changed course!
